Smart Industry
A winery contacted us. Its business model is being challenged by climate change and the sharp rise in electricity costs. The operator needs to water and modify his winemaking methods, with a sharp rise in the need to cool or heat the wine. These changes lead to a sharp rise in water and electricity consumption, with the risk of financial imbalance for the operation.
How can we optimize the use of resources to reduce water and energy bills?
The aim is to provide a much clearer picture of how resources are used, so that we can better understand our spending and where we can optimise it.
For water consumption, we proposed the installation of our DataCan 4G, which can integrate multiple interfaces. The existing watering system was coupled with soil moisture sensors and motorised valves. This means that watering only comes on in certain zones and only when the soil humidity is too low.
For electricity consumption, each tank has been fitted with an individual electricity meter and a 4-meter data logger. This makes it possible to monitor electricity consumption hour by hour during the cooling and heating phases.
These installations have made it possible to adapt the cycles and optimise consumption. What’s more, accurate monitoring of consumption means that, in the longer term, investment decisions can be made in more energy-efficient equipment.
In conclusion :
Water consumption for watering was reduced by 32% despite a warmer climate than the previous year.
Tests have shown that the quality of the wine remains the same with smaller temperature differences, resulting in a 17% reduction in energy consumption.
